The Holy Spring (Ayazmo) of Stara Zagora Metropolitan Metodi Kussev Park
People call Metropolitan Metodi Kussev Park the green heart of Stara Zagora. It was named after its creator who showed strong will and brave spirit to transform the bare hills over the town into a beautiful park with tens of unique trees for Bulgaria and exotic shrub species over the area of 3 200 daa in the end of 19th century.
People of Stara Zagora more often call it “Ayazmoto” as it was named by Metropolitan Metodi Kussev himself. Today the alleys of the park are preferred place for a walk with friends, cycling, jogging, tourism, badminton and tennis. A fresh eco path leads to the greenest residential district of Stara Zagora – “Dabrava”, tucked away behind the green hills of Ayazmoto.
A favourite place for the people of Stara Zagora and its visitors is the Zoo. There are hundreds of exotic animal like lions, brown bear, cheetah, ostriches amd many others. In the evenings, it is wonderful to sit around the fountain “The Little Frogs” situated at the entrance of the park.
In the central part of “Ayazmoto” among picturesque vegetation there is the orthodox Chapel “St. Theodor Thyron” which was built on the place of an ancient heathen sanctuary.

Guide book: Take Han Asparuh Street from Park Hotel Stara Zagora on the west. Then go down on Augusta Trayana Street. About 200m later on your right side you’ll see the entrance of the park.
